Less than two weeks ago, 58 lives were lost and more than 500 injured — by one man.
One person was able to wreak that kind of havoc, take that many lives — because he had a “bump stock” that converted his weapon of war — an AR-15 — into a machine gun.
It’s time to outlaw machine guns and it’s time to outlaw these devices that make other guns into machine guns.
Like I told you last week, the time for action on gun violence is now.
I am proud to say that I joined 165 of my colleagues in co-sponsoring the Automatic Gunfire Prevention Act (HR 3947) which will prohibit the manufacture, possession, sale, or transfer of devices designed to convert a semi-automatic weapon into the near equivalent of a fully automatic machine gun. But this bill won’t pass in Congress unless you speak up.
I need you to join me by becoming a citizen co-sponsor. Sign our pledge now to become a citizen co-sponsor and stand against gun violence now.
What happened in Las Vegas was the nation’s worst mass shooting in history. We said the same about Orlando last year. We can’t wait for the next “worst mass shooting in history.”
Something has to change.
We need to stand together and take action because 30,000 American lives a year are taken by gun violence. We can change that, we can save more lives, but only if we act.
Together, we will end gun violence and the time is now.
