Happy 95th Birthday to the 19th Amendment!

It was on this date in 1920 that the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote, was ratified by the state of Tennessee, gaining the two-thirds of the states necessary for ratification. The following week the 19th amendment was certified by U.S. Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby, officially enshrining the new law into the U.S. Constitution.

The 1920 presidential election was the first election that millions of American women exercised their right to vote for the first time.

Happy birthday 19th Amendment and many, many more!!!

Special thanks to the League of Women Voters of the U.S. for bringing this to our attention.
